Civil War (1862 dated) recruiting broadside with title text "ARMSTRONG COUNTY DRAGOOON, FOR THE STANTON CAVALRY" at Camp Howe, Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. Broadside names recruiting officer as Captain William Blakely. The 14th Pennsylvania Cavalry served in various actions mostly in West Virginia and Virginia in 1863 thru 1865. In it's service the 14th Pennsylvania Cavalry lost 2 officers and 97 enlisted men killed or mortally wounded and 296 enlisted men as a result of disease. William Blakely (1833-1899) was a Pittsburg attorney and raised four companies of cavalry and became the lieutenant colonel of the 14th Pennsylvania serving with them until his resignation on June 6, 1865. The broadside measures 15" x 10" (sight) and is housed in a frame measuring 22.25" x 16.5". The broadside exhibits folds and some old tape bleed-thru residue at lower left and top center.
